"... Also amongst its noble shrines is the birthplace of the Prophet - may God bless and preserve him - and the undefiled ground that was the first earth to touch his immaculate body and over which has been built a mosque that never was seen more finely built, being for the most of inlaid gold. The holy place where the Prophet - may God bless and preserve him - came forth in the blessed and happy hour of his nativity, a nativity ordained by God in compassion for all the people, is girt with silver. What earth to be honoured by God in making it the place of the coming forth of the purest of bodies, the birthplace of the best among men ! May God bless and preserve him, his stock, his family, and his noble Companions. This blessed place is opened, and all men enter it to be blessed, on every Monday of the month of Rabi' al-Awwal; for on that day and in that month was born the Prophet - may God bless and preserve him. All the holy places mentioned are opened on that day, which is always a famous one in Mecca....."
